Charity donation made from Imerys Marathon

A donation of £500 has recently been made to the Royal Cornwall Hospital’s charity by members of St Austell Running Club and has come from profit made from the 2016 Imerys Marathon and Half Marathon.

The presentation was made to Dr Andy Virr, a consultant in Emergency Medicine at Treliske Hospital.

At the presentation, Dr Andy Virr thanked both members of the Running Club and Imerys Minerals Ltd who open up their land every year in order for the event to take place.

Dr Virr then went on to explain more about the Charity and in particular how the Emergency Department has benefited has from it. He said: “We have been able to purchase an ice machine for swollen joints and sport injuries, state of the art hi-tech clocks for assessing patients in Resus and most recently Patient Pump Bridges. These are devices used to go over patients to help carry equipment when patients are being moved around different departments. We used to pop these items on the patients beds but they can be quite heavy and cumbersome so these bridges really help make patients more comfortable.”

Helen Stuthridge and Becky James who are both club members but also work for Imerys commented that: “It gives us great pleasure to be once again supporting a local charity. Everyone in Cornwall has either themselves or a family member who will have required the services of the Royal Cornwall Hospital at some stage in their lives.

“St Austell Running Club has over 200 members and we work in conjunction with Imerys to make the Marathon a challenging and exciting event, the fact we can donate money to a local charity makes it even more worthwhile.”

St Austell Running Club would like to take this opportunity to thank our 2016 sponsors, Minear Engineering, Stephens-Scown, Jeffery’s Estate Agents, Howdens, St Austell Brewery, St Austell Printing Co, Charlestown Woodburners and Fires, Clean Earth, Colin Marshall Scaffolding, Glendale, Thirsty Work and Personal Best Running.

Becky and Helen added: “We are indebted also to Cornwall College who provide a base to hold our event plus facilities and activities for our spectators, Boskell Riding Stables located at Trethowel who give us permission to run through their land and of course Imerys Minerals Ltd who help us organise our event and provide us with a course to run on.”

This year’s Imerys Trail Marathon and Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, May 14.
