About Us

The St. Austell Running Club was formed in November 2007, when a group of local runners, who were members of other clubs in the County, decided there was a need for a running club in St. Austell. The first night attracted over 40 runners and St. Austell Running Club started with a bang. The membership rapidly increased to over 100 and is nearing 200.
We are affiliated to England Athletics and we have a squad of coaches and group leaders who have either completed or are progressing through various EA coaching schemes.
Our Aims and Objects are: -

Based at Tregorrick Park (St Austell Rugby Club), we meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6.30 p.m. for notices and the training session starts at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday is the more popular night with usually over 50 members attending. Thursday usually attracts about 40 members. The monthly training schedule is published on the website under “Training” and in each week there is both a structured training session and a regular run. The days on which these occur alternate to account for members who can only make it to club nights on a particular night each week.
In addition to the road we offer Track training sessions. In the winter months we use the Athletics Track at Par. In the summer months we use a grass track local to the Rugby Club. Details of where and when track session are being offered are posted on the website under “Training”
We have a foundation group for beginners whose purpose is to encourage people new to the sport to try it out, or anyone returning to training, to ease back in. The foundation group is taken by experienced leaders and the distances run by the group are adjusted to suit the ability of the participants on the night.
All road training sessions start from the Rugby club unless published otherwise. Throughout the winter months it is mandatory that runners wear high visibility clothing or reflective bibs and the runs use street lit routes around St Austell and Carlyon Bay. When the lighter evenings permit the routes are ‘off-road’ as much as possible, using the Pentewan Trail, cliff paths, clay trails, and footpaths etc.
The club encourages its members to enter local races and offers a simple entry system for paid up members. When there is no race on a Sunday the club arranges Sunday club runs. The Sunday Run location is decided on club nights and is posted on the club website. Members run in groups depending on ability for longer distances than is possible on club nights. These longer runs are invaluable to build up stamina for longer races such as half-marathons or marathons. It is much easier to run in company than on ones own!
Membership costs £30.00 for the year and subscriptions are due at the end of October. Of this £5.00 is paid to England Athletics for the individual runners racing licence. £10.00 is paid to St. Austell Rugby Club to make the member an associate member of the rugby club and free to use the showers, changing and bar facilities. The remaining £15.00 goes to the running club funds to assisting in training coaches and other projects to further our aims. Discounted membership is available for Families.
If the member is to compete in races then a club vest must be worn and these are available in traditional St Austell purple, with the St Austell logo on club nights, at £14. There is also a selection of Club apparel including Hi Visibility Vests, Hoodies, Tee Shirts and Jackets available either from stock or by special order.
The club has an active social side and photos of the past events can be seen on the gallery.
If you are interested in coming along to a club night to see what it’s like, bring your kit and trainers, with a compulsory reflective bib for safety in the winter, and you will be welcomed on any Tuesday or Thursday.
